Lake Tour July 2018

Canal Flats has a colourful history including a shooting on the main street!  Just ask Colin Cartwright!

CLSS hosted a free group tour and lunch on July 21st to give people an opportunity to learn more about Columbia Lake. It was a walking / driving tour that took us from the headwaters of the Columbia River in Canal Flats to the Columbia Lake Provincial Park at the north end of Columbia Lake.

Many THANKS to Colin Cartwright, Dr. Suzanne Bayley, Verna and Louie Stevens of the Shuswap Nation, and Bob Walker, all who fascinated us with history, science, and folklore.  Members of CLSS also showed us how citizen scientists are collecting data on the water quantity and water quality of the lake.

Everyone agreed they had learned a lot about the lake and about how lucky we are to have such a beautiful, largely untouched lake.

CLSS would like to thank all the participants, who were very enthusiastic and asked lots of questions, and the guest speakers, who shared their special knowledge. The tour will run again next year, so make sure you sign up!
